CanTeen launches “reset” a lifestyle education programme for young people who have finished cancer treatment, to get them back on track to better health.
The pilot programme, developed with the input of a specialist physiotherapist and nutritionist, supports young people who have finished treatment to meet their exercise and nutritional goals. Two weekend residential programmes and a 12-week home-based challenge provide young people with information and skills around exercise, nutrition, health risks and self-care.
A total of 22 participants participated in the first weekend programme held in Auckland in late February. They prepared their own meals, gave paddle boarding a go and undertook a series of fitness tests to enable progress to be tracked. The 12 week exercise component will be supported by CanTeen’s very first mobile application, developed by HotPotato Software Ltd.
The young people have reached the 9-week mark of their 12-week challenge and are well on track to meet their goals with many positive accounts of exercise and cooking adventures posted on their private Reset Facebook group. The group are looking forward to catching up for a second weekend get together later.
